On Friday, July 17 the Hampton Health Department will offer free children’s car seats and booster seats to those who meet certain income eligibility requirements. In addition to receiving the seats, participants will receive required training in how to properly install them.
This distribution will take place in the auditorium at the Hampton Health Department located at 3130 Victoria Blvd. For more information, contact Ruby Gatling at 727-1172, extension 21715.
Newport News residents can apply through Newport News Health Department by calling Pamela Parham, RN at 594-7384, same guidelines apply.
To qualify for a free child safety seat, applicants must be:
- Medicaid, WIC, FAMIS eligible or meet program income eligibility guidelines
- Residents of Virginia
- Parent, legal guardian, or foster parent of the child (proof of guardianship/foster placement required)
- At earliest: the last trimester (last 3 months) of pregnancy
- Military eligible if they meet the guidelines and have lived in Virginia for 6 months or longer (proof of residency)
- Immigrants who are not citizens of the United States would have to wait until the baby is born, then the baby would be eligible for the seat
Supplies will be limited so participants are encouraged to register early.
