John Eagle Selected as Assistant City Manager

John Eagle John Eagle, former Director of Information Technology for the City of Hampton, has been appointed to the position of Assistant City Manager effective August 25. Eagle will be leading the Organizational Efficiency Team which includes the City's administrative and internal service departments.

The responsibilities of an assistant city manager include ensuring that strategic plan elements are pursued and achieved; working with external agencies to initiate their participation in strategic plan implementation; bringing an organization-wide perspective to department matters; providing assistance and consultation to departments as needed; promoting organization-wide and departmental innovations; reengineering existing city services; assisting in special project management; managing and reviewing Council agenda items; and serving as liaison to various community groups and council members.

More than 20 years ago Eagle began his career in Hampton government as a programmer analyst with Hampton City Schools. In 1988 he moved over to the City as a software developer and since then has worked progressively in database administration, systems engineering, systems analysis, and project management. In 1998 Eagle became the Director of Hampton's Information Technology Department.

Eagle holds a Bachelor of Science degree in government administration from Christopher Newport University and an Associate Degree in applied science. He has been a Hampton resident for more than 30 years.

In his new position Eagle will be specifically tasked with streamlining administrative functions across the organization utilizing reengineering principles and technology.
