Join the Hampton Citizens' Unity Commission and Pay Tribute to
Hampton's Law Enforcement Professionals on May 12, 2010
The Hampton Citizens' Unity Commission (CUC) calls upon the residents of Hampton to honor law enforcement professionals who sacrifice in service to our community and everyday provide a vital public service by safeguarding the rights and freedoms of the City of Hampton.
During National Police Week in May, the nation recognizes the service and sacrifice of U.S. law enforcement professionals. We urge Hampton's citizens to make positive personal contact and express recognition of the sacrifices and dedication to duty provided by law enforcement on Wednesday, May 12, 2010. There are a number of ways to show our appreciation for law enforcement professionals, supervisors, dispatchers, and administrative and support staff to include writing and sending a letter of appreciation; shaking the hand of an officer and saying "Thank You;" discounts on products and services from local businesses or participating in "Deliciously Decadent Desserts for the Dedicated"!
Everyday law enforcement professionals in our local sheriff's office and police department put on their uniforms and go to work to safeguard and protect the freedoms we hold dear. Law enforcement professionals routinely place themselves in harm's way to protect people they do not know. They serve willingly and devotedly, and their commitment is essential for us to maintain a healthy quality of life, a strong economy and consistent safety of our families.
Law Enforcement is one of the few chosen professions that require the willingness to lay down one's life to protect others. For those who work in law enforcement, normal duty is dangerous, stress-filled and often unappreciated and requires a special person with a supportive and understanding family. Let us as a community be an extension of that support on May 12, 2010.
If you would like more information or to find out how you can participate in showing support for our law enforcement professionals in the City of Hampton, contact CUC Commissioner, Kayla Hicks at 757.831.1796 or the Citizens' Unity Commission Office, 757.728.3279. Our mailing address is: Hampton Citizens' Unity Commission, 22 Lincoln Street, Hampton, VA 23669. Email the commission at unity@hampton.gov.
Show your continued support by visiting the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund at www.nleomf.org.
