Minority Business Program: Success Stories

The City of Hampton offers valuable tools to help local businesses grow and succeed. Minority and women-owned businesses are able to get listed in the City of Hampton's Small Business Directory to receive email notifications with information about bid opportunities for the commodity code(s) specific to their line of business. The City's Minority Business Program provides information about upcoming contracting opportunities, mentoring resources, business development training workshops, and networking opportunities.

Three Virginia women-owned businesses that have benefited from services offered by Hampton's Minority Business Office are:

  • Cox Decorative Concrete, Inc., a certified Women-owned Business Enterprise (WBE) located in Narrows, VA, was awarded a contract for concrete landscaping throughout the City (Bid award $50,000).
  • Montgomery Enterprises, Inc., a certified WBE located in Yorktown, was awarded a contract for interior renovations of 710 Settlers Landing Road (Bid award $42,788).
  • Design Systems & Services Corporation, a certified WBE located in Virginia Beach, was awarded a contract for roof replacement to Fire Station #5 (Bid award $64.528).

These businesses utilized services offered by the City's Minority Business Office and were listed in the City's Small Business Directory. The City encourages state-certified minority and women business enterprises to familiarize themselves with its electronic notification services to ensure they derive maximum benefits associated with receipt of contracting-related opportunities with the City of Hampton and Hampton City Schools.

Certified Small, Woman and Minority (SWaM) vendors can be included in the City of Hampton's Small Business Directory by contacting the Minority Business Office within the Department of Economic Development at 727-6237.
