August 25, 2006

Kanata Jackson Kanata Jackson has been appointed by Hampton City Council to the Federal Area Development Authority (FADA), replacing Regina Brayboy, who resigned from the committee due to other professional demands.

Prior to her position with Hampton University, she served as Chair of Savannah State University's Social Work program in Georgia, and had previously worked for Rockwell International-Space Division in California.

Jackson received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology/Psychology from Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia in 1967 and a Master of Social Work from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1971. In 1987, she obtained a PhD from United States International University, now Alliant International University, in San Diego, California.

Jackson is an active member of the community and serves on the board of directors of Peninsula SCORE and Lion's Club International, and the board of trustees of Shelton on the Bay. The Department of Defense has recognized the Hampton FADA as the Local Redevelopment Authority for the reuse planning associated with Fort Monroe. The FADA will be best positioned to identify and respond to the community stakeholders who have comments on the reuse plan and ensure that the redevelopment plan is coordinated with Council's exercise of its zoning authority.
