Hampton Codes Compliance Director Elected
President of International Code Council

Steve Shapiro Steve Shapiro, director of City of Hampton Codes Compliance, was recently elected president of the International Code Council (ICC) Board of Directors. Shapiro has been involved in code enforcement for 29 years, 23 of them in Hampton where he oversees new construction, property maintenance, and zoning.

ICC, established in 1994, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the health, safety, and welfare of people by creating better buildings and safer communities. ICC develops the codes used to construct residential and commercial buildings, including homes and schools. Most U.S. cities, counties, and states that adopt codes choose the International Codes developed by ICC. The Council has more than 45,000 members.

Shapiro has been a director serving on the ICC Board since 2000. Prior to his election as president, he served a one-year term as vice president and a one-year term as secretary/treasurer. He has been an active participant in the model code arena since 1983, serving on numerous professional and technical committees.
