Reverend Clary Appointed to Council Seat

Today Reverend Anderson W. Clary, Jr. took the Oath of Office to replace the Hampton City Council seat vacated by retiring Councilman Rhet Tignor. Hampton City Council voted unanimously to fill the vacated seat with Reverend Clary.

Reverend Clary is a native of Newport News, Virginia where he received his elementary and high school education. He received undergraduate and graduate degrees from Providence College in Rhode Island. He has been the professor of field ministry at the prestigious Harvard Divinity School, professor of theology at the Richmond Virginia Seminary, and the professor of religious studies at Hampton University. In addition to his theological background Clary has also been involved in commercial banking and managed commercial and retail portfolio accounts.

Clary is a former commissioner for the 8th District, Chairman of the Governor's Commission for Community and National Service and member of the Hampton School Board.

Clary's awards include the nationally coveted Jefferson Award for his work and contributions to inner city neighborhood improvement.

Currently Clary is the Pastor of Queen Street Baptist Church.

The term of office Clary is completing will end on June 30, 2008.
