His Commitment to Technology
February 8, 2008
Citing his continued vision for the need and potential of high technology strategies in today's New Economy, the Hampton Roads Technology Council recently honored Hampton City Councilman Charles S. Sapp with the "Chairman's Award for Exceptional Leadership By A Local Elected Official."
"For years, Dr. Sapp has been dedicated to the strategic planning around the emerging culture that is influenced by information, global markets, and a host of new opportunities in technology," said Technology Council President Timothy Early.
The Hampton Roads Technology Council is a member-driven, non-profit organization advocating an environment that fosters growth, education and communication within the region's high-tech community. HRTC hosts several events each year including the recent Sensors World Conference and Expo last month in Williamsburg, and an annual award gala in May where several local leaders of the high-tech industry are recognized.
Early noted that Dr. Sapp has been a strong advocate of innovative industries in Hampton including the modeling and simulation industry, National Institute of Aerospace (NIA), and NASA's Langley Research Center. Last year, Dr. Sapp played an instrumental role in convening technology leaders from across Hampton Roads to discuss the challenges and opportunities that await communities 10 years or more into the future. "It's these kinds of efforts that the HRTC likes to recognize," said Early.
