Become a Volunteer Firefighter or Emergency Medical Technician

November 8, 2007

You can make a difference in Hampton by volunteering as a Hampton firefighter or medical technician.

Becoming a Volunteer Firefighter

Since 1884 the volunteer fire companies have provided the businesses, citizens, and visitors to the City of Hampton protection against fire, natural disasters, medical emergencies, and other life-threatening emergencies. The volunteers also provide support and participate in various school and community based activities such as fire and life safety programs for students, school carnivals, smoke detector awareness campaigns, stand-by at football games, Hampton Bay Days, various boat races, and many other activities.

Being a volunteer for the Hampton Division of Fire & Rescue offers an opportunity to enhance knowledge, skills and abilities and give something back to the community and the citizens of Hampton.

Becoming a Volunteer Emergency Medical Technician

As part of the Basic Life Support team volunteers respond to emergency medical situations and public assistance calls to include some fire and rescue related emergencies.

Volunteer Emergency Medical Technicians must complete several courses before being assigned to a volunteer rescue squad. These courses consist of the Hampton Fire Division's prerequisite classes and the Virginia Department of Health's Emergency Medical Service's E.M.T.-Basic course.
