Mayor Kearney and White Marsh Owners
Discuss Ideas For Preserving The Area

October 31, 2007

A variety of state and federal tax relief mechanisms for current property owners could be available to help with the long-term preservation of the White Marsh area.

That's why Mayor Ross A. Kearney has been having sit-down discussions with various property owners, to talk about what their long-term desires may be for the property.

While the discussions are simply exploratory in nature, they are an opportunity for property owners to look at options that may be available to preserve the land. These could include actions such as donating the property to a land conservancy or the city, or creating conservation easements. There could be state or federal tax benefits associated with these various options.

"At this point in time, we don't have specific details about the benefits and options," the Mayor said. "These discussions are very preliminary. We've just been talking in general terms to get a sense of what people may be willing to do in the future.

"Our commitment is on preserving this area for future generations, and to learn the ways that people may feel that can be accomplished."
