"Work in Progress" Presentation
On This Week's Fort Monroe Public Planning

July 26, 2006

The public and the media on Thursday, July 27 will have the opportunity to view a "Work in Progress" presentation about the focused public planning effort that is taking place this week for the reuse of Fort Monroe.

The Army is scheduled to vacate Fort Monroe in 2011 as part of the Base Realignment and Closure process.

The presentation will be made by Dover-Kohl and Partners, the planning consultant the Hampton Federal Areas Development Authority has hired for the project.

This presentation will include a series of draft alternatives for the reuse of the fort. The alternatives are based on best practices and the input received from the public during a week-long series of open meetings that are occurring this week.

Date: Thursday, July 27
Time: 6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Place: Hampton Roads Convention Center, 1610 Coliseum Drive, Hampton, Virginia

Conceptual drawings showing potential new uses for Fort Monroe will be made available to the media.

Why significant: Hundreds of citizens have participated in the planning sessions this week. This will be an opportunity for the media to describe the draft plans and interview citizens and officials who will be at the presentation.
