During 2011 household chemicals will be collected from Hampton residents on March 19th, May 21st, July 16th, September 17th, and November 19th. All are Saturdays and the collections are held at the Public Works Operations yard at 419 North Armistead Avenue from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m.
It is a drop-off program sponsored by the City of Hampton and the Virginia Peninsulas Public Service Authority (
VPPSA) to serve residents in the City of Hampton for the disposal of household chemicals.

Only residents in the City of Hampton can participate. No chemicals are taken from businesses in the City.
They accept latex and oil paints, stains, wood sealers, thinners, solvents, glues, gasoline, diesel fuel, auto batteries, brake fluids, motor oil, anti-freeze, insecticides, pesticides, weed killers, fertilizers, swimming pool chemicals, oven cleaners, drain cleaners, floor waxes, metal polishes, photo finishing supplies, charcoal fluids, and old chemistry sets.
Additionally, on scheduled computer and electronic recycling dates , we now accept all makes and models of computer CPU’s, monitors, keyboards, printers, mice, faxes, servers, PDA’s, network switches and routers, jump drives, laptop computers, scanners, copiers, AC adapters, stereo equipment, cameras, Ipods and MP3 players, video games and consoles, telephone equipment, cell phones, portable radios, DVD players, VCR’s,
but we cannot accept ANY TELEVISIONS. All of the above listed items are accepted only from residents who live in the City of Hampton.
We now also accept
fluorescent light bulbs and
fluorescent light tubes through our Household Chemical Collection program during the regularly scheduled collection dates. Solid Waste does not collect any of these fluorescent bulbs or tubes curbside. Please be careful to protect the bulbs as you transport them to the collection site to avoid breakage.
No asbestos material, explosives, radioactive materials, trash, business or medical waste, and no large quantities of unknown chemicals.
No. All household chemicals must be brought to the collection site only on the scheduled collection day. We cannot store household chemicals for you.
Have a friend or neighbor who is a Hampton resident bring the items on the scheduled collection day for you.
Absolutely not. It is both extremely dangerous and illegal to improperly dispose of household chemicals.
Business chemical waste can be disposed of at a scheduled
VPPSA collection site, for a fee. Business customers must contact VPPSA at 259-9850 prior to bringing any chemicals to a collection site.
