If your scheduled day falls on a holiday, your garbage, bulk trash, limbs, yardwaste, and tires will be collected on the Wednesday of that week. If your every other week recycling collection is scheduled on the holiday, it will also be collected on the Wednesday of that week. The holiday collection schedule is published in the newspaper and is available to you through the 311 Customer Call Center.
Clear bags are required so that the collector can see what is inside to avoid contamination from trash.
No, all yardwaste must be in clear bags for collection. Stock up early during leaf season to be sure you have enough bags.
Clear bags are available at all major retail outlets in Hampton, building supply stores, and many drug and grocery stores at comparable prices to dark bags.
Hampton residents, and contractors doing yard work in the City, can take their yardwaste to the yardwaste site next to the landfill. They accept leaves, grass, and limbs/branches that are no bigger than 5 inches in diameter and 5 feet in length. Grass and leaves must be "debagged" by the customer at the site.
There is no limit to the number of bags. We ask that they do not exceed 50 pounds per bag for the safety of our collectors.
Yardwaste can be put curbside as early as 3 p.m. on the day before your scheduled collection day. Bags need to be curbside by 7 a.m. to insure you will receive prompt service.
Each item is collected by a different vehicle so the yardwaste bags need to be accessible to the collector.
Vacuum trucks are expensive to buy and maintain. Also, when leaves are in the curb or ditch during a rain storm it can cause serious flooding in neighborhoods.
