The Streets Division of Public Works does repairs to all City streets where slabs are damaged or a blow-up occurs.
A blow-up is a section of road or street that is severely off-grade (unlevel). The concrete slab or road section is either raised or sunken at the spot of the damage. It can interfere with the safe passage of traffic and cyclists at the damaged point.
A concrete slab is a large section of the road or street made of concrete. The slabs are joined by expansion joints that expand and contract with the temperature.
The damage may be due to temperature, water and chemicals in the joint, a poor sub-base under the slab, heavy volumes of traffic, or heavy loads. Any blow-up should be investigated to insure traffic safety and repaired or replaced as necessary.
You can call the 311 Customer Call Center between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. 7 days a week to report the problem. Streets and Roads personnel will investigate the problem and take the necessary actions to keep the area safe until repairs can be made.
The individual property management company or the owner of the property would be responsible for these repairs or replacement.
