About School Age Programs

A+ Academies The School Age Programs were designed by Hampton Parks & Recreation to provide affordable after school care to working families of our city. The program does not seek to replicate the school environment, but aspires to reinforce school success through enrichment. By implementing enrichment opportunities not found in the classroom, our students are able to develop their education in a more practical way. The City of Hampton Parks & Recreation Department revolves around one common goal: establishing Hampton as the Most Livable City in Virginia. To accomplish this goal, our citizens must come first. The working parents of Hampton need an after-school safe haven where youth development is the first priority, and we have worked to fulfill their needs.

The School Age Programs which target the families of elementary and middle school students, are continually searching for new ways to help our youth succeed. These programs serve as launching points for each student to excel in their everyday classroom and in specialized activities, which might have been unattainable outside of the school age facility. The school age program strives to balance the need for recreation and education, in order to produce well-rounded youths. Our city's future is held in the hands of our youth, and with the help of our community, they will succeed.
